Cringely – Chrome vs. Bing vs. You and Me →
I always enjoy Cringely’s spin on the technology business. He’s hard to argue with. The vast majority of Google searches are, of course, done on PCs running Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer. It is not in Google’s real interest to displace these products, which have facilitated so much of its success. Chrome products are given away, so they bring in no revenue for Google, and...

File Dropper – Free File Hosting →
I am a huge fan of Yellow Mug’s Filechute ($18) to share larger files through MobileMe (or any other server). But this online file hosting service allows you to upload your files for free (up to 5 GB). Just send the the recipient a link where your stuff can be downloaded. Fast and easy to use. Alternatively you could use YouSendIt, or Apple’s own iDisk solution, but both gave me...

Flexibits – Cameras →
Cameras (free) is an intelligent preference pane, which guides your cameras, media readers, and iPhones to their correct application. Do you have multiple cameras? Do you spend time quitting iPhoto every time you connect your iPhone? Wish you could have your DSLR open Aperture and have iPhoto launch when you connect your point-and-shoot camera? If so, Cameras is the solution you’ve been...

Shape Collage – Automatic Photo Collage Maker →
Shape Collage (free) turns a collection of photos into a collage of practically any shape. I can think of a project or two with pictures of Laura. You’ve probably made a few photo collages in your lifetime, whether you laid out photos with the perfect amount of messy randomness in a photo album or magnetized a grouping on your fridge. But in the digital world, there’s not a lot out there that...

HP Releases iPhone Versions of Classic Calculators →
OMG! Best calculators ever made, now on the iPhone/iPod touch! I still use the 12c my Dad bought me more than 20 years ago. It seems that HP still sells the exact same model, their longest and best-selling product. Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) always made sense to me. Nerd in the making. Each app uses the original ROM code and provides an exact visual replica of the actual horizontal-format...

Jeremy's Extreme Ford Fiesta Road Test →
And that is why we love Top Gear. You have to chew up the first five minutes though, but all hell brakes loose after that. The smoke grenades fit perfectly in the cup holders. The windshield is heated, but not bulletproof. Let’s go! Come on Fiesta! These kids are being annoying. Shoot them!

One Key – Function Key Assignment →
True, F13-F19 have never been touched on my watch. Set them free for $5. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know what to do with the F5-F6 and F13-F19 keys on my keyboard. They do perform functions in certain applications, but for most part they’re lying around unused. This is the large wide aluminium keyboard I’m talking about which came with the iMac (not the new narrow one). Lucky me when I...

Klix – Picture Recovery Software →
Let’s hope I’ll never need this. Accidentally delete, reformat or have a corrupt camera media card? Klix is digital picture recovery software and can recover lost digital pictures after deletion, reformatting or corruption. Works with all USB or FireWire cameras and recovers all common image and video formats. You can always try the free Exif Untrasher first, before coughing up $30...

Google Street View – Introducing The Pancake →
Google is adding a “less annoying” way to move through Google Street View. Check it out in the embedded interactive Street View and watch the video. Cool! Moving around in Google Street View is not always intuitive. You always end up clicking aimlessly a few times before you can really figure out how to move about. Well, now navigating within Street View is easier thanks to the...

The Plot to Take on the iPhone →
An interesting read; Josh Quittner for Time writes about Jon Rubenstein’s leaving Apple and then heading Palm to launch the Pre. The industry sets a blistering pace, and Palm is already late to market. But if anything worries the famously secretive Apple (which, it goes almost without saying, declined to comment for this story), it has to be Rubinstein. He wasn’t merely once an Apple insider; he...

Licensed - Managing Sofware Licences and Passwords →
I use and like Steel ($9) from Gravity, but this looks like a nice (free) alternative. Licensed offers a place to put [your software licenses], and because it does nothing else, it does it very well. Every effort was taken to make entering details as quick and painless as possible. After all, software licenses aren’t really something you should spend much time worrying about.

20 Inspiring Uses of Data Visualization →
Data is boring, information is interesting! I’ve always used this statement whenever the issue of data is being discussed. No one is really interested in looking at a large number of data rows, or even a small one. As humans, we tend to better understand a particular issue when it is presented to us in a visual way, and in this roundup you will find 20 sites using data visualization that deliver...

GlimmerBlocker Blocks Web Ads →
I succesfully use AdBlock, but GlimmerBlocker looks like a nice alternative. GlimmerBlocker is an ad blocker that is safe to install because it doesn’t hack Safari. You’ll be able to update Safari without a problem. The utility works via a proxy server (a Web server go-between) to intercept your browser’s calls for some ads.

Check this out, an amazing still video created to promote the new Philips Cinema 21:9 TV. Since the television’s 21:9 frame lends itself so readily to film, Tribal DDB, Amsterdam commissioned us to create a piece of filmed content that could hold its own with Hollywood’s best. Director Adam Berg responded with an idea for an epic ‘frozen moment’ cops and robbers shootout sequence that...
